Dictating
Avette gives you two ways to dictate, both on the Right Option (⌥) key.
Push-to-talk
Hold Right Option (⌥) and speak; release to stop. Your words appear as marked text while you hold, and commit when you let go. Let go a little early? Avette waits for you to finish your sentence before committing, so you don’t lose the tail of what you were saying.
Hands-free
You don’t have to hold the key the whole time. There are two ways into hands-free:
- Start hands-free: tap Right Option (⌥) quickly — Avette keeps listening without you holding anything.
- Switch mid-dictation: already holding for push-to-talk and the sentence is running longer than you wanted to keep holding the key? Press Right Command (⌘) to hand off from push-to-talk to hands-free, then let go of Right Option and keep talking.
Press Return (↩) to submit when you’re done.
Submit and cancel
- Submit — Return (↩): end the dictation and commit it. In apps where Return sends (like a chat box), that fires off your message.
- Cancel — Escape (⎋): discard what you were dictating.
